Some Approaches to Talking Therapies
There is no general theory of human behaviour to explain or predict individual actions and therefore, there is no standard talking therapy to guarantee universal success. Literally hundreds of different talking therapies have been put forward. Some talking therapies fall into more than one category, others into none.
The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) website has an extensive A–Z of therapeutic approaches. This list covers many types of therapy by name, and explains the different beliefs and approaches behind each one.
MhIST offers two styles of talking therapy, Person Centred Counselling and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.
