MhIST Advocacy Updates focus: Mental Health Services

A lot of Mental Health services are still running but to access them you may need to change how you do it.

COMMUNITY MENTAL HEALTH TEAMS

These are still operating as normal and can be contacted on;

Community Mental Health Team:

Current opening hours 9am to 5pm.

If you are struggling with contacting them and need an advocate or are unsure what to do next you can contact our advocacy team on 01204 527200 or send an email to help@mhist.co.uk. The advocacy team are still working, they are doing online advocacy, telephone calls and Zoom/Skype/FaceTime meetings. 

Please note – we also help carers of those who are experiencing mental health problems.

MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES

If you or someone you know is struggling with their mental health and you consider they are at risk, then you can still access the services and get advice or a referral to get support

Greater Manchester Mental Health

GMMH is still operating. They can be contacted through;

GMMH 24/7 helpline

Telephone 01204 483071.

For GMMH service users and carers, can also be accessed by Primary Care Psychological Therapy Service clients and people on their waiting list

Bolton Assessment Service (BAS):

Rivington Unit, Royal Bolton Hospital.

Current opening hours – 9am to 5pm.

Offering mental health assessments over the phone except in exceptional circumstances. Please contact your GP to request a referral to Bolton Assessment Service.

GP surgeries – these are mainly through telephone appointments. Some surgeries are offering drive through blood tests.

Statutory Advocacy (in Hospital or in the Community)

If you or someone you know is detained under the Mental Health Act, then they are still entitled to their rights which include access to an Independent Mental Health Advocate. This service is still running and is provided by The Bolton Advocacy Hub

Bolton Advocacy Hub

The Advocacy Hub provide: Independent Mental Capacity Advocacy (IMCA) in Bolton; Independent Mental Health Advocacy (IMHA) to eligible clients in Bolton; Independent Care Act Advocacy (ICAA) to eligible clients in Bolton.

Storehouse Foodbank MhIST’s advocacy service can refer clients to Storehouse for food parcels if needed. Storehouse is Bolton’s main centrally located foodbank – providing weekly food parcels to those in need across the borough. Primarily the project supports families and single people in distress as a result of redundancy, illness, debt, adverse changes or a delay in benefits including those who have been sanctioned.
