Many of us experience times in our lives when we feel under pressure and find it hard to cope, this could be because of past issues, relationship difficulties, grief or from finding it hard to deal with everyday life.
Counselling helps people come to terms with many problems they are facing, with an ultimate aim of overcoming them. They are based on an interpersonal relationship between the client and the Counsellor (sometimes called therapist) which helps them develop a better understanding about themselves and then solve their problems.
What is Counselling?
Counselling is not about the Counsellor solving problems for you, or about them giving advice.
It is a process of talking about and working through your personal problems with a Counsellor. The Counsellor uses techniques to help you to address your problems by helping you to clarify the issues, explore options, develop strategies and increase your self-awareness.
