These pages are aimed at young people who are helping to look after a parent suffering from a mental health problem.

Society's attitude to mental health is generally not a sympathetic or helpful one. This means that sufferers and families often feel isolated and ashamed at a time when they most need help.

What is often forgotten is the fact that people are ill. People like your mum and dad whom you desperately want to get better. They are suffering from distressing illnesses which can make them behave in unpredictable and unfamiliar ways.

This section of the site will enable you to understand a bit more about what is happening and where to go for help. Mental health problems are surprisingly common and there are many people who can offer you and your family help and advice

This section will also hopefully encourage you to ask for more information. The more you know, the better you will be able to cope with your parent's illness
