Our Vision.

MhIST was established by people who experience mental distress, their carers and families. Their vision was that MhIST would provide a friendly, safe and positive environment for people with mental health problems. Recently this has been updated with the further aim to reduce the stigma around mental health in the workplace and develop a culture where people with poor mental health are accepted and supported without fear or discrimination.

Be a part of the team.

MhIST is a strong user-led organisation. Members have the opportunity to be involved in running and developing the organisation. Members can be involved by joining our board, by volunteering to support various elements of the organisation, by bringing ideas for investigation and development, and by participating in what we do.

Everyone has a voice.

MhIST values confidentiality, person-centeredness, non-judgemental, and supportive. We avoid confrontation and exhibit patience and enthusiasm.
Our board of trustees meet regularly and oversee the organisation from financial, risk, and governance points of view. They receive reports about the various activities of the organisation and plan new ventures. They report back to the membership via the group meeting structure. The idea is that everyone has a voice.

Improve your quality of life.

The overall vision of MhIST is to provide a society where people with mental health problems are accepted and empowered to improve their quality of life. We think that what we do and the way we do it enables that vision. By having their voices heard members have control which leads to greater self-confidence and a boost to member’s self-esteem.
